The year is 1974 , I entered boot camp shortly after my 17th birthday and in the spring of 1974 Shortly after April 15th of that year and graduated 11 weeks later which I believe would have been sometime in July. My company # number was Company 133 . In all honesty I cannot remember my Company Commanders name but there was one young Indian in our company by the name if memory serves me right by the name of David RunningBear . He was supposedly a Apache Indian. I remember the wooden Ship in which we practiced on was the USS Recruit, however all the guys called it the USS NO. If you have this year book available I will gladly pay for a copy and all expenses shipping and so forth. My mother had my old one and has since deceased and I am unable to locate any of my military pictures. It is very important to me that I get to show my grandchildren this.

Memory of Boot Camp: I was in Boot Camp at San Diego from August, 1969 to Graduation. I was in Company 584. My Company Commander was Chief Gibson. His assistant was 1st class PO Johnson I believe. I remember the recruit we voted on for our “leader”. He was a very large guy from Washington named “Zaug”. We were in the “old barracks” and played shuffleboard on the wash racks. We had to tie our laundry up with square knots that from what I understand, they don’t do anymore. I lost my Anchor yearbook a long, long time ago and would love to have a copy of it again.

Memory of Boot Camp: Our DI came in the barracks one cold March morning and said, "Men, today you will have an "opportunity" to donate blood to the American Red Cross.
It is strictly "voluntary", but I have NEVER had less than 100% participation in the past". Needless to say, we also had 100% participation. I have been a blood donor ever since. Over 5 gallons with Red Cross, and about 10 gallons at local blood collection facility. Many more "unrecorded" donations over the years.
